Oh, Happy Day. Our River House is finally wrapped up, photographed (by the very photographically-challenged, yours truly) and ready for our enjoyment & hopefully some rental guests! If you’re ever looking for a getaway around North Lake Havasu, you can find it shortly through Laughlin Rentals and VRBO or AirBnB. When it’s up, I’ll be sure to post the link!
Furnishing this place was probably even more challenging than the architectural design as far as getting everyone in the group on-board with realistic costs vs. quality, aesthetic, etc. When you’re not in the design world or haven’t done your own home, $399 for a 9×12 area rug can seem to the interior-ignorant as an insanely high rip-off. (lmao). To me and many, it was an insane bargain! Or paying over $100 for a night stand made some physically ill. I love you all, but I’m still baffled by the logic at times. Regardless of the push-backs, gripes and controversial need for things like end tables, we did it. We filled the home with necessities, great deals on furniture, decorative objects and art, by way of HomeGoods, Ikea, Target & Wayfair) We also worked with items we already owned for decor pieces. I’d say I’m not actually quite finished with the living room, but we’re close enough… and I’ll show you what it looks like as of now 🙂
So, welcome to Eden East! As you open our very stately black door with one large lite, you’ll be greeted by this entry console and an amazingly beautiful, unobstructed, panoramic view of the private lake, mountains and desert landscape in the forefront. Sigh… blood pressure down already.
If you hooks a left, you’ll find yourself in Mini-Master #1, complete with french doors leading out to a private patio and an ensuite bath. (Side note: after I finished photographing this room, the inhabitant came darting at me with two armfuls stuffed with accessories, and snaps, “what the hell do you want me to do with all of these damn pillows??!! TAKE EM.”) Laugh/cry… He’s a simple man.
And the ensuite bath, complete with our own exquisite art created from phone pics lol… but at least they are authentic to our adventures in the area!
Ok, out of this room. You’ll pass back by the entry and the kids’ bunk room, which was too messy to show you today, but I promise another time! Then out into the great room, hitting the kitchen on your left. This is really where we had to think collectively to combine both of our styles; desert modern meets rustic farmhouse:
The natural light throughout this home is incredible. It’d be a dream for a REAL photographer!
Adjacent to the kitchen is our living/sitting/TV room, whatever you want to call it. Now while our open floorpan makes our great room truly that- greaaaaat big and spacious, the area we had to work within for our actual furniture & TV watching layout turned out to be a modest 8′ x 10′ of usable space without blocking doorways, walking paths, etc. and leaving some footage to actually use the barstools we decidedly wanted to wrap around our island for maximum seating. We scored a Craigslisted Crate & Barrel leather Axis sofa for our main seating and paired it with a budget friendly Ikea Kivik and a Wayfair chair. Now, there were many layouts presented, but ultimately the configuration that provided the most butt-in-seats won out. It may not be the prettiest, but I think I can live with it.
And finally for today, I’ll lead you to the guest bath before you hit the road. This small but mighty full 4 piece bath was one of my favorite spaces as I would be using it often as my main wash-room. It needed to tie in to the rest of the house of course, but I really wanted it to pack some personality. The tub-shower was also the only one we could actually tile besides the master– but again, had to be really budget friendly. I chose an elongated white subway tile, as the fewer grout lines cut down on the business, and chopped up a 12×12″ -1″ square black mosaic to create some stripes, and boom! Here they lie:
So there you have it, the first half of our River House/Eden East Tour! Please come back Monday to see Part II and the final reveal of our Master Bed & Bath, Dining Room, Pool Table & Wet Bar, Laundry Room and Patio. Can’t wait to show you! Have an amazing weekend, people!!
